New Occupational Profiles in an Industry of the Future

The orthopaedic technology industry has developed exponentially. From its traditional artisanal roots, it has developed into a high-tech industry. Computer-controlled knee prostheses afford leg amputees virtually unrestricted mobility, athletes with a handicap achieve personal bests using sports equipment made from state-of-the-art materials like carbon or titanium, and wheelchairs made of the same material can be lifted and manoeuvred using one hand.

Completely new occupational profiles are required to take account of the development of the industry. Specialists who not only have the manual skills, but also the necessary academic knowledge are required. Our study programmes are assuming an international pioneer role in this respect.

Best Possible Conditions for Your Studies

As a result of establishing the ZHT Zentrum für Healthcare Technology (Centre for Healthcare Technology) in 2011, the PFH provides you with state-of-the-art technical equipment in spacious premises at Göttingen University Clinic to enable you to be successful in your studies.

Strong Partners for an Innovative Teaching and Research Area

While developing the courses of study, PFH worked closely together with an industry network, which ensures the highest quality for our students. Otto Bock HealthCare GmbH from Duderstadt, the global market leader in orthopaedic technology, was an important source of inspiration in the development of our study programmes. The company promotes university-level training in Germany to enable physically handicapped people to participate as fully as possible in life using innovative technical solutions. Other partners in the Healthcare Technology education network that were closely involved in the development of the programmes include the Federal Academy of Orthopaedic Technology (BUFA) in Dortmund, the Federal German Association for Orthopaedic Technology, the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO) and the University Medical Centre Göttingen (UMG). This ensures the practical reference of research and teaching and our graduates' career prospects.
