It is long established that people skills are key to success in any career. And they are particularly important for those in management roles. As the distribution of work between humans and machines shifts throughout the year, we can safely assume that truly human skills will be in high demand in 2022

Analytical thinking

Managers and business leaders have been mastering analytical thinking for ages. In 2022, continue to look for new management ideas and techniques, as it will give you a considerable advantage. Moreover, work on improving your decision-making as it will teach you to notice things others usually miss.

How creative would you say you are in your work? Being creative will set you apart from people who are reluctant to think outside of the box. If you think that you are not a creative person, that is not a reason to get upset, since creativity is something you can develop. Find ways to boost your originality and creativity.

Effective problem-solving is gaining more importance and will be a foundational skill in 2022. It not only includes dealing with constraints but predicting potential threats and eliminating them. Practice your problem-solving skills to be able to successfully manage potential bottlenecks in advance and keep your clients feeling secure.

Leading projects throws new challenges at managers: managing and influencing a group not only professionally but also socially. Managers need to shape and influence the social groups they are in charge of and have to consider individual and social factors when striving for success.

Emotional intelligence

The term “emotional intelligence” (EI) was coined by psychologists Peter Salovey and John D. Mayer in 1990 and presupposed “the ability to perceive emotions, to access and generate emotions so as to assist thought, to understand emotions and emotional knowledge”. The relevance of this skill will only continue growing. Managers will need to learn how to lead with emotional intelligence to help them maximise team performance and catalyse change
